Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth Appointed Next Chief of the Army Staff

New Delhi, June 13: The Government of India has appointed Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth as the next Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) in the substantive rank of General. He will assume office with effect from the afternoon of June 30, 2026, upon the retirement of the incumbent Army Chief, General Upendra Dwivedi.
Currently serving as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff, Lt Gen Seth is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and a distinguished officer of the Armoured Corps. With nearly four decades of exemplary military service, he has held a wide range of command, staff, and strategic appointments across operational and institutional domains.
His appointment comes at a significant juncture for the Indian Army, reflecting the government’s confidence in his extensive leadership experience and strategic acumen. Throughout his illustrious career, Lt Gen Seth has been recognized with several prestigious military honours, including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM), and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM).
As he prepares to take over the helm of the Indian Army, Lt Gen Seth is expected to lead the force through evolving security challenges while continuing its modernization and operational preparedness initiatives.
