At the centre of this administrative effort is Chief Secretary M. K. Das, whose approach has focused on strengthening implementation, monitoring outcomes and keeping the state machinery aligned with emerging challenges.

A significant part of this agenda has been Gujarat’s international investment outreach ahead of the 11th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, scheduled for January 10–12, 2027. Das accompanied Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel during the delegation’s visit to San Francisco, Washington DC, New York and Toronto, engaging with investors, technology leaders and business representatives as Gujarat sought to present its investment and partnership opportunities globally.

Das has also emphasised that ambitious development targets need equally strong monitoring and timely reviews. His administrative message has centred on active participation by officers at every level, from the state secretariat to district administrations, with attention to measurable outcomes across sectors such as infrastructure, health, employment, ports and transport.

His emphasis on technology-driven governance is visible in Gujarat’s preparations for Census 2027. Das personally participated in the digital self-enumeration exercise and encouraged government employees and citizens to use the new facility. More than 60,000 citizens had completed self-enumeration in Gujarat by May 20, 2026.

Capacity building has been another area of focus. While addressing deputy secretary-level officers during a training programme at SPIPA, Das underlined the importance of sound decision-making, continuous learning and familiarity with emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.

His approach has also extended to disaster preparedness. During the pre-monsoon review, he directed the activation of control rooms at state, district and taluka levels and called for timely completion of road and drainage works. Gujarat positioned 14 NDRF and 22 SDRF teams for emergency response.

Taken together, these initiatives indicate an administrative style centred on coordination, preparedness, technology adoption and follow-through. As Gujarat prepares for its next phase of economic and social development, M. K. Das’s emphasis on institutional capacity and implementation remains an important part of the state’s governance framework.
