By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM|Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh has taken a significant stride towards achieving sustainable development, clean energy expansion, and farmer empowerment through the adoption of innovative Agri-Voltaic (AgriPV) solutions. In a landmark initiative, the Department of New & Renewable Energy, Government of Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (MPUVNL), and the Indo-German Agri-Voltaic Cooperation Project under GIZ India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at promoting Agri-Voltaic projects across the state.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and New & Renewable Energy Minister Rakesh Shukla, marking a major milestone in Madhya Pradesh’s journey towards becoming a leader in decentralized renewable energy generation.

Agri-Voltaics represents an innovative approach that enables farmers to continue cultivating their land while simultaneously generating solar power. By integrating agriculture and solar energy production on the same parcel of land, farmers can diversify their income streams, improve land-use efficiency, and contribute to the state’s renewable energy goals.

The collaboration is expected to facilitate the identification, development, and implementation of scalable AgriPV models suited to the diverse agricultural landscapes of Madhya Pradesh. It will also support the adoption of clean energy technologies, reduce dependence on conventional power sources, and strengthen climate-resilient agricultural practices.

The initiative reflects Madhya Pradesh’s growing commitment to distributed solar energy and sustainable development. GIZ India has been a valuable partner in supporting decentralized renewable energy projects and sharing international expertise to help accelerate India’s clean energy transition.

The signing of the MoU was facilitated with the support and coordination of Manu Srivastava, Additional Chief Secretary, New & Renewable Energy Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh, and Amanbir Singh Bains, IAS. Their efforts contributed to the successful visit of the German delegation and helped strengthen collaboration between Indian and German stakeholders in advancing Agri-Voltaic initiatives in the state.

Officials believe that this partnership will open new avenues for farmer-centric development, ensuring that agricultural productivity and renewable energy generation progress hand in hand. The initiative also aligns with India’s broader vision of enhancing energy security, promoting green growth, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities in rural areas.

With this pioneering collaboration, Madhya Pradesh is poised to emerge as a national model for integrating agriculture with solar energy generation, demonstrating how innovation, international cooperation, and visionary leadership can drive inclusive and sustainable development.
