In a significant leadership change in the national capital’s police force, the Ministry of Home Affairs has appointed Anurag Kumar, a 1994-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer, as the new Commissioner of Police, Delhi. The appointment places an experienced intelligence and policing professional at the helm of one of India’s most challenging law enforcement organisations.

Before his new assignment, Anurag Kumar was serving as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau, where he handled key national security and intelligence responsibilities. His extensive experience in policing and intelligence is expected to strengthen Delhi Police’s operational capabilities in areas such as crime control, public safety, counter-terrorism, and technology-driven policing.

As per the Ministry’s order, Kumar will assume office from the date he takes charge. He succeeds Satish Golcha, a 1992-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer, who has been directed to report to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi for his next assignment after handing over charge.

The appointment comes at a crucial time when Delhi Police continues to face complex security challenges associated with the national capital, including law and order management, cybercrime, and protection of key institutions. With his strong intelligence background and administrative experience, Anurag Kumar is expected to provide strategic leadership and further enhance the force’s effectiveness and public confidence.
