By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM | In a significant move towards strengthening digital governance and enhancing public service delivery, the Government of Gujarat has entered into an important collaboration with Meta to introduce citizen services through a unified WhatsApp-based platform. The initiative reflects the growing emphasis on technology-driven governance aimed at making public services more accessible, efficient and citizen-friendly.
Under the new initiative, nearly 20 important government services will now be made available to citizens through a single WhatsApp interface in both Gujarati and English. The platform is designed to simplify interactions between citizens and government departments while reducing the need for physical visits to offices and lengthy procedural delays.
The services proposed under the initiative include grievance redressal support, issuance of income certificates, caste certificates and EWS certificates, ration card-related updates, access to revenue records, official affidavits and several other essential public services. Citizens will be able to access these facilities conveniently through their mobile phones with just a few clicks.
The initiative draws inspiration from the vision of Narendra Modi and the broader objectives of the Digital India programme, which aims to transform governance through digital empowerment and seamless delivery of public services. By integrating governance mechanisms with widely used digital communication platforms, the Government of Gujarat is attempting to bridge the gap between administration and citizens in a more practical and technology-oriented manner.
The concept of “WhatsApp Governance” is being viewed as a progressive step towards modern administrative reforms where government services become more responsive, transparent and accessible to people from all sections of society, including those residing in remote and rural areas. The use of regional language support alongside English is expected to further improve accessibility and citizen participation.
The Government has also indicated that additional public services will gradually be integrated into the platform in the coming months. This expansion is expected to reduce dependence on multiple online portals and minimize the need for citizens to stand in long queues for routine administrative work.
With digital governance increasingly becoming central to public administration across India, Gujarat’s latest initiative represents another notable effort in leveraging technology to improve governance delivery and strengthen citizen convenience in the digital era.
