By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| In a major step towards strengthening India’s digital payments ecosystem, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has extended its ‘UPI One World’ wallet facility to international visitors from more than 40 countries attending the India AI Impact Summit 2026, being held in New Delhi from February 16 to 20.
The initiative enables foreign travellers to make seamless, secure and real-time Person-to-Merchant (P2M) payments using UPI during their stay in India. Appreciating NPCI’s continued innovation, the move reflects India’s growing leadership in digital payment solutions by allowing visitors to transact effortlessly without requiring an Indian mobile number or local bank account.
Under the pilot programme, the ‘UPI One World’ wallet is being issued through authorised Prepaid Payment Instrument (PPI) providers at New Delhi International Airport as well as at the NPCI Pavilion located at Bharat Mandapam (Hall 14, Stall 14.16). Visitors can load funds into the wallet using multiple international payment options and complete transactions simply by scanning UPI QR codes through the PPI-UPI application.
The facility eliminates the inconvenience of carrying cash or dealing with foreign exchange procedures, offering a smooth and user-friendly payment experience. Any unused balance remaining in the wallet can be transferred back to the original payment source in accordance with applicable foreign exchange regulations.
Shohini Rajola, Executive Director – Growth at NPCI, highlighted that UPI has emerged as the world’s largest real-time payment system. She noted that extending the ‘UPI One World’ service to global participants of the AI Summit allows international guests to experience India’s advanced, Made-in-India digital payment technology firsthand.
She further emphasised that the initiative demonstrates how simplified cross-border payment systems can contribute to building a more connected and inclusive global digital economy, reinforcing NPCI’s role in driving innovation and expanding the global footprint of India’s digital payments infrastructure.
