Odisha CS, Ms. Anu Garg reviews operations, expansion plans during maiden visit to Paradip Port

By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| Ms. Anu Garg, Chief Secretary of the Government of Odisha, undertook a comprehensive visit to Paradip Port Authority, marking her maiden tour of the major maritime hub after assuming office. The visit focused on assessing operational efficiency, infrastructure readiness and future expansion initiatives shaping the port’s strategic role in the region’s economic growth.
During her visit, she took a launch ride across the harbour area to gain first-hand exposure to port functioning. The Chief Secretary closely observed berth preparedness, vessel traffic management systems and key marine operations, interacting with officials and technical personnel to understand operational mechanisms at ground level. The exercise provided an on-site perspective on cargo handling processes and maritime logistics management.
P. L. Haranadh, Chairman of Paradip Port Authority, accompanied her during the visit and outlined the port’s ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen safety protocols and prepare for capacity augmentation in response to rising maritime trade demands.
At the Wet Basin area, the Chief Secretary was formally received by port authorities, where a ceremonial Guard of Honour was presented by the CISF unit, reflecting institutional protocol and the importance of the visit.
Later, at the Administrative Building of the port, a detailed presentation was made highlighting major infrastructural and technological advancements undertaken in recent years. Discussions covered several key maritime initiatives, including the proposed Bahuda Satellite Port, the planned Puri Cruise Terminal aimed at promoting coastal tourism, and the development of a shipbuilding cluster at Kendrapara. Broader port-led industrial and logistics development initiatives across Odisha also formed part of the deliberations.
Expressing satisfaction over Paradip Port’s consistent cargo growth and modernization efforts, Anu Garg appreciated the forward-looking expansion strategy being pursued to strengthen Odisha’s maritime economy. Senior officials, including Deputy Chairman T. Venu Gopal, participated in the review meeting.
The Chief Secretary was received upon arrival by Chairman P. L. Haranadh in the presence of the District Collector and Superintendent of Police of Jagatsinghpur district, underscoring the administrative importance attached to the visit. The interaction reflected coordinated efforts between the state administration and port leadership to accelerate maritime infrastructure development and support regional economic progress.
