PESB Recommends Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan as CMD of POWERGRID

By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan for appointment as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), India’s central transmission utility and a Maharatna CPSE under the Ministry of Power.
Presently serving as Director (Projects) at POWERGRID, Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan has been closely associated with the planning, execution and commissioning of large and complex power transmission projects across the country. His leadership has contributed significantly to strengthening India’s high-voltage transmission network, facilitating renewable energy integration and enhancing grid reliability.
An engineering graduate with a Postgraduate Diploma in Management, Shri Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan (DIN: 09806168) has earlier served as Chief Operating Officer (Telecom) and Officer on Special Duty (Projects) in POWERGRID. He has also completed the Harvard ManageMentor Program and undertaken advanced management courses from the Indian School of Business. In addition, he served as Chief Executive Officer of POWERGRID Teleservices Limited, where he played a key role in expanding the company’s telecom business and initiating work on POWERGRID’s first Data Centre.
With over three decades of rich experience in the power and telecom sectors, Shri Vamsi possesses deep expertise in project implementation, procurement management and regulatory affairs. His strong understanding of the power sector’s regulatory framework led to his role as a founding member of POWERGRID’s Regulatory Cell. He was also a key architect of POWERGRID’s entry into competitive bidding, a strategic initiative that successfully positioned the organisation in the evolving competitive transmission market.
The PESB recommendation reflects confidence in Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan’s professional competence, strategic vision and leadership capabilities to guide POWERGRID through its next phase of growth, aligned with India’s energy transition goals and the development of a resilient, future-ready national power grid.
