Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra has taken charge as Director (Technical) – Project & Planning at SECL today on 27 August 2025. On this occasion, CMD SECL, Harish Duhan extended a warm welcome to RC Mohapatra and conveyed his best wishes. Smt. Subhashree Mohapatra was also present on this occasion.

SECL Director (Technical) Operations N Franklin Jayakumar, Director (HR) Biranchi Das also met Mohapatra and conveyed their best wishes. Prior to joining SECL RC Mohapatra was working as Area General Manager, Jhanjhra Area, ECL.

A seasoned mining professional with over three decades of rich and diverse experience in underground and opencast coal mining, Mohapatra brings with him a proven track record of operational excellence, strategic foresight, and innovative leadership.

An alumnus of IIT-BHU (Mining Engineering, 1990), Mohapatra also holds an MBA in HR and is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India).

He began his career at Surakachha Colliery in the Korba Area of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) and subsequently rose through leadership roles as Colliery Manager, Project Officer, Additional General Manager, and Area General Manager across SECL and Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL).

Over the years, he has successfully led some of the largest mining projects of CIL, both underground and opencast, delivering consistent growth in production, introducing advanced technologies, resolving land and rehabilitation issues, and fostering strong community engagement.

He has represented the Indian coal sector internationally in forums like the African Mining Indaba and Czech industrial collaboration talks.
