Rahul Navin Gets One-Year Extension as ED Director

By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM|New Delhi, August 10, 2026:Enforcement Directorate Director Rahul Navin has been granted a one-year extension in office by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), allowing him to continue at the helm of the central anti-money laundering agency beyond August 13, 2026.
According to the government order, Navin’s tenure has been extended for one year beyond August 13, 2026, including extension in service beyond his date of superannuation, July 31, 2027, or until further orders,
A 1993-batch Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax) officer, Navin joined the Enforcement Directorate as Special Director in November 2019. He was given additional charge as Director of the agency in September 2023 following the completion of Sanjay Kumar Mishra’s tenure.
In August 2024, Navin was appointed as the full-time Director of the Enforcement Directorate for a fixed two-year term ending August 13, 2026. His latest extension will provide continuity in the leadership of the agency for another year.
Navin has been associated with several high-profile investigations during his tenure in the ED. Prior to joining the agency, he served in the Income Tax Department and handled areas including international taxation, transfer pricing and related matters. He has also served in vigilance-related assignments.
The extension comes at a time when the government has recently continued the tenure of another key investigative agency chief. In May 2026, CBI Director Praveen Sood, a 1986-batch Karnataka cadre IPS officer, was also granted a second one-year extension by the ACC beyond May 24, 2026.
Sood had initially taken charge as CBI Director in May 2023 for a two-year term and received his first one-year extension in May 2025. His latest extension will keep him at the helm of the CBI until May 2027.
The continuation of both investigative agency chiefs underscores the government’s emphasis on leadership continuity in two of the country’s key central investigation and enforcement institutions.
