RailTel Corporation of India Ltd, a Central Government PSU of Ministry of Railways in a major step to serve the requirements of health care industry has designed and established a “Health Cloud” at Visakhapatnam premises of Andhra Pradesh Med Tech Zone (AMTZ), the world’s first integrated medical device manufacturing hub. It is a dedicated “Data Centre” catering to the specific and idiosyncratic needs of Health sector. This has been done as part of a landmark partnership agreement between RailTel and AMTZ. The partnership intends to develop and facilitate advanced digital health services and initiatives such as EMRA (Electronic Medical Record Alliance), Radiology Imaging Services, Health Digital Data Fiduciary Services etc. It will facilitate seamless integration of medical equipment, medical processes and various IP system and application connected with the health services. All the initiatives under this partnership will facilitate empowering of hospitals in rural areas with hi-tech digital healthcare facilities and thereby making the universal health care access a reality.
While RailTel, a Miniratna Central Government PSU is prominent telecom & ICT services provider and has emerged as one of the largest Neutral Telecom Infrastructure Services Providers in the country; AMTZ is the only industrial park in the country situated in Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) housing manufacturing units of electronic, electrical, electro-medical, radiological and biomaterial medical devices apart from having a set of common scientific facilities (research and development institutions and testing labs) required for manufacturing of such medical devices and thus it is world’s first integrated medical device manufacturing ecosystem. It also serves as an incubation centre for start-up companies.
RailTel’s “Health Cloud” at AMTZ has been inaugurated by Ms. Louise Agersnap, Head of WHO Innovation Hub, WHO-Geneva in the presence of Dr Jitendra Sharma, MD & CEO/AMTZ, Shri Manohar Raja, ED/RailTel, and Shri. Rajiv Nath, Forum Coordinator, Association of Indian Manufacturers of Medical Devices (AiMeD). RailTel is also providing cloud and connectivity support to Electronic Medical Record Alliance (EMRA) which is an important consortium formed to provide Hospital Information System (HIS) solution to small entities for building EMR bringing everyone into the fold of digital health ecosystem. The consortium aspires to emerge as a Health Digital Data Fiduciary Services and Health Information Exchange fully complying and seamlessly integrating into ABDM ecosystem.
The common uses of digital technologies in health include searching medical knowledge resources, facilitating clinical support, monitoring quality of care, and mapping and monitoring the spread of infectious diseases, as well as tracking supplies of drugs and vaccines, equipment, machines and accessories.
