Railway Board Chairman & CEO Satish Kumar’s Tenure Extended by One Year

By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| New Delhi, July 27: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of tenure of Satish Kumar, IRMS (1986) (Retd.), as Chairman & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Railway Board for a further period of one year.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) on July 27, 2026, the extension will take effect from September 1, 2026, on a re-employment contract basis. He will continue on the existing terms and conditions, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The appointment has been approved in relaxation of the Indian Railway (Selection to Senior Posts) Rules, 2025, ensuring continuity in the leadership of the Indian Railways at a crucial phase of infrastructure expansion, modernization and capacity enhancement.
Satish Kumar, a retired Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) officer of the 1986 batch, has been serving as Chairman & CEO of the Railway Board, steering key reforms and strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s railway network and improving operational efficiency.
