In an endeavour to digitize workspace, more than 1 crore digital receipts and 16.8 lakh digital files have been created by Railway officials on NIC e-office platform implemented by RailTel. RailTel was entrusted with implementation of NIC eOffice for Indian Railways officials in phased manner since April 2019. In 3 phases RailTel has created 1.35 lacs users on NIC e-office platform over 216 establishments of Indian Railways (zones/divisions/CTIs/workshops etc). RailTel has also provided rigorous training to users to handle e-office platform efficiently and conditioned them to give up the habit of using manual file system.

By replacing manual files with digital files, Indian Railways is not only saving massive operational cost but also reducing carbon footprint by fostering paperless office culture. E office implementation has resulted in enhanced transparency, quick & systematic disposal of files, timely monitoring of pending files.

Due to availability of e-office, a huge amount of file work of Indian Railways could be done remotely during the time of nationwide lockdown enabling them to continue their regular work. NIC e-Office is a cloud enabled software hosted at RailTel’s Data centres, is a effective way to shift manual file works in Digital platform which is accessible from anywhere if accessed through secure VPN.

Talking about this project, Puneet Chawla, CMD, RailTel, said, “ Given the organization size and geographical spread, it was a huge task for RailTel to transfer the entire manual filing system of Indian Railways on to one digital platform. However, the most difficult part was to condition the users to give up the habit of using manual file system and adapt the new system of paperless working. RailTel team has managed to complete the implementation before the laid down timelines and helped in adoption of the system successfully.”
