Sanjay Lohiya Nominated to RBI Central Board as Government Director

By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM|Mumbai, June 11, 2026: The Central Government has nominated Sanjay Lohiya, Secretary, Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, as a Director on the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
According to a press release issued by the RBI on Thursday, Lohiya has been appointed to the Central Board in place of Nagaraju Maddirala. The nomination became effective from June 11, 2026, and will remain in force until further orders.
As Secretary of the Department of Financial Services, Lohiya plays a key role in formulating and implementing policies related to banking, insurance and financial institutions. His induction into the RBI’s apex decision-making body is expected to further strengthen coordination between the Government and the central bank on financial sector issues.
The RBI Central Board is responsible for overseeing the affairs of the Reserve Bank and provides guidance on key monetary, regulatory and financial stability matters. Lohiya’s appointment comes at a time when the financial sector is witnessing rapid transformation driven by digital innovation, financial inclusion initiatives and evolving regulatory requirements.
The announcement was made through RBI Press Release No. 2026-2027/438 issued by the Department of Communication, Central Office, Mumbai.
