SBI celebrates Vigilance Awareness Week 2015
Mumbai, October 26, 2015: State Bank of India (SBI) celebrated Vigilance Awareness Week 2015 (26th October 2015 to 31st October 2015) at a function organised at State Bank Bhavan, Nariman Point, Mumbai. D. K. Verma, DGM (Vigilance), SBI welcomed the Chief Guest Julio F. Riberio (Retd. IPS).

B. Sriram, MD – National Banking Group, SBI in his opening remarks explained, “The Bank took a number of Preventive vigilance initiatives with the help of technology. Bank has several best practices like Preventive Vigilance Meetings, Whistle Blower Scheme etc., which are helping the Bank in many ways.”

“Maintaining ethical business conduct is essential for good governance.” he added.

Ribeiro, in his address narrated his experiences in fighting corruption while in service and also after retirement. His active involvement in formation of “Mohalla Committees movement” consisting of Hindus, Muslims and Police to prevent religious tensions in Mumbai was explained in detail. His efforts as an activist of Right to Information and also creating awareness about fighting corruption and for good governance were also informed. He touched the aspect of bribery / corruption in public life and the need for curbing the same. He concluded his speech by stating that only people with will can fight injustice and involvement of voluntary organisations in fighting against corruption are essential.

He also appreciated SBI’s efforts in spreading anti-corruption message across the country. He also stressed upon the need to inculcate ethical values among the youth who are in the process of joining the services sector.

P.J. Joy, Chief Vigilance Officer exhorted one and all to renew their commitment to end corruption in the society and rendered Vote of Thanks for all the dignitaries attending the function.
