By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has recorded steady progress in FY 2025–26 across all three key performance parameters—coal production, offtake and Overburden Removal (OBR). Notably, SECL is the only subsidiary of Coal India Limited to have registered growth in all three parameters compared to the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

The company surpassed its total coal production of the previous financial year on 18 March 2026. SECL’s total production has reached 167.7 million tonnes (MT), reflecting a growth of around 6% over the same period last year. This performance has been driven largely by strong contributions from its mega projects:

•Gevra Project: 51.7 MT
•Dipka Project: 36.5 MT
•Kusmunda Project: 30.7 MT

Other areas have also contributed significantly:

•Central India Coalfields: 25.6 MT
•Raigarh Area: 15.8 MT
•Korba Area: 7.2 MT

SECL has also achieved 350 million cubic metres of Overburden Removal (OBR) so far, marking an improvement over the previous year and facilitating enhanced mining activity in the coming months.

On the offtake front, the company has also crossed last year’s total, achieving 171.3 MT as of 17 March 2026, registering a growth of 4.5% over the corresponding period last year.

On this occasion, Harish Duhan, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, SECL, said:
“SECL remains a key pillar in ensuring the nation’s energy security. Our priority is to maintain uninterrupted coal supplies to meet the country’s growing energy demand. We remain fully committed to achieving our targets and are making all necessary efforts to further enhance production and dispatch in the remaining period.”

Spread across the states of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, SECL is the second largest coal producing company in India, contributing nearly 17–18% of the country’s total coal production. In view of the rising power demand during the upcoming summer season, the company is implementing focused strategies to further strengthen production and supply, ensuring timely and adequate coal availability to power plants.
