New Delhi, 19th May, 2021: Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Steel Dharmendra Pradhan today dedicated in the service of nation, a 200-bedded gaseous oxygen-equipped COVID-care facility at Burnpur made by the SAIL-ISP Burnpur. The facility is also equipped with 10 ventilators and 8 ICU beds are also being made operational at the facility. SAIL-ISP Burnpur has converted its 32 room Chhotadighari Vidyapeeth HS School into 200 bedded Jumbo COVID Care Facility which is being put to service today. The new temporary facility is a part of the 500-bedded Jumbo Covid-care centre being established by SAIL for providing critical care to Covid19 patients in and around Burnpur (Asansol) and Paschim Bardhaman region of West Bengal.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Pradhan said that the nation faced unprecedented demand of medical oxygen during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. He expressed satisfaction that the steel sector has stood up during these testing times and worked on war footing basis to supply liquid medical oxygen in the country.
Pradhan mentioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for setting up COVID-care centres near the production centres of gaseous oxygen, said that he is glad that today SAIL is starting its first such COVID-care facility with gaseous oxygen in Burnpur. He also called for maintenance of the facility by SAIL to ensure superior hygiene and environment for the patients. Minister Pradhan also called for setting up testing facility at the centre and also by other steel plants to ensure aggressive testing and tracing to combat the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Enumerating Prime Minister’s vision of taking everyone along, Minister Pradhan called for vaccinating people associated with the steel ecosystem including contract labourers.
Minister of State for Steel Faggan Singh Kulaste, MoS Environment, Forest & Climate Change Babul Supriyo and MLA, South Asansol Ms. Agnimitra Paul and Smt Soma Mondal, Chairman, SAIL were also present in the event along with senior officials of the Ministry of Steel and SAIL.
