By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM|Dr. Satish Jha Takes Up Key Land Issues to Accelerate ECL’s Project Development
Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) is giving focused attention to strengthening land facilitation, recognising its importance in ensuring timely progress of mining and other development projects. In this direction, Dr. Satish Jha, CMD, ECL, recently met Surendra Gupta, Principal Secretary, Land & Land Reforms, Relief & Rehabilitation Department, Government of West Bengal, to discuss important land-related matters affecting the company’s ongoing projects.
The meeting reflects Dr. Jha’s proactive approach towards addressing operational issues through close coordination with the State Government and relevant authorities. Land availability and timely statutory clearances are critical elements in taking major projects forward, and ECL has been pursuing these matters with a view to facilitating smoother project implementation.
During the meeting, Dr. Jha requested early sanction of Government land that is presently under process at various levels in the districts and at the State Secretariat. He highlighted that the non-availability of such land is affecting the progress of some major ECL projects and sought timely intervention to facilitate their advancement.
He also took up the matter of early clearance for mutation of inherited ECL land as well as land acquired under the Coal Bearing Areas (Acquisition & Development) Act, 1957. Timely mutation and documentation are important for ensuring clear land records and enabling the company to effectively utilise its land assets for planned activities.
The discussions underline Dr. Jha’s emphasis on resolving issues at the appropriate level and maintaining continuous engagement with government authorities. Rather than allowing procedural matters to become prolonged bottlenecks, the ECL leadership is actively pursuing solutions through institutional coordination.
The Principal Secretary assured that the matters raised by ECL would be taken up for the earliest possible action. The assurance is expected to provide further momentum to the resolution of pending land-related matters.
For a major coal-producing organisation such as ECL, efficient land facilitation has a direct bearing on project execution, operational expansion and long-term development. Dr. Satish Jha’s engagement with the State Government demonstrates a focused and solution-oriented approach to facilitating projects while maintaining constructive coordination with stakeholders.
With continued cooperation between ECL and the Government of West Bengal, the resolution of these land-related matters can help create a smoother pathway for projects and strengthen ECL’s contribution to the coal sector and the broader economic development of the region.
