Rishikesh, June 24, 2023 – R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDC India Limited (THDCIL), announced commencement of 26th Inter Central Power Sector Undertakings (ICPSU) Carrom Tournament organized under the prestigious banner of the Power Sports Control Board, PSCB (MOP), at Rishikesh. Vishnoi stated that this Five-day event promised thrilling matches and spirited competitions, to be held from 24th to 28th June, 2023. He informed that total 11 Male teams and 08 Female teams of Power Sector viz. Ministry of Power(MOP), Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Bhakhra Beas Management Board (BBMB), National Hydro Electric Power Corporation(NHPC), Grid India, Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (SJVNL), North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO), Power Finance Corporation (PFC), Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd. (REC), Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) and host team THDC India Limited (THDCIL) are participating in this tournament. Vishnoi encouraged all the participants to embrace competitive spirit while upholding the values of fair play and sportsmanship and urged everyone to collectively promote sports for the wider national interest. Vishnoi further added that participating in ICPSU Tournaments not only promoted unity, sense of healthy competition and sportsmanship but also provided a platform for the employees to showcase their skills and talents beyond their regular work and responsibilities. J. Behera, Director (Finance) inaugurated this 05-Day tournament. Addressing the gathering during the inaugural ceremony, he emphasized the importance of sports and encouraged everyone to proactively contribute in promoting sports for wider National Interest. Shallinder Singh, Director (Personnel) graced the occasion, which was attended by senior officers and employees of THDCIL.

On the first day of the Carrom Tournament, team championship matches for men and women were played. In the men’s section, team PFC defeated team NEEPCO by 2-1 points, team CEA defeated team BBMB by 2-1 points, team Power Grid defeated team REC by 3-0 points and team NHPC defeated Grid India by 3-0 points and entered in the next round. Whereas in women’s section team MOP defeated team NHPC by 3-0 points, team Power Grid defeated team PFC by 2-1 points, team SJVNL defeated team REC by 2-1 points and team CEA defeated team THDCIL by 2-1 points and entered the next round.

THDCIL is one of the premier power generators in the country with installed capacity of 1587 MW with commissioning of Tehri Dam & HPP (1000MW), Koteshwar HEP (400MW) in Uttarakhand, Wind Power Projects of 50MW at Patan & 63MW at Dwarka in Gujarat, 24MW Dhukwan Small Hydro Project, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh and 50 MW Solar Power Project at Kasaragod, Kerala to its credit.
