(THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM) WAPCOS limited has achieved a significant milestone with the successful completion of a Technical Feasibility Study for irrigation canal rehabilitation and water meter installation across the fertile Ferghana Valley—encompassing regions of the Kyrgyz Republic, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. The study was carried out in close partnership with ACTED and the PATRIP Foundation.

Renowned for its deep expertise in water and infrastructure development, WAPCOS led this cross-border initiative with a focus on improving water use efficiency in one of Central Asia’s most critical and shared agricultural landscapes. The project centered on key watersheds where water scarcity and climate variability continue to challenge both agricultural productivity and regional cooperation.

The study included detailed technical assessments, site-specific project designs, and the formulation of sustainable operation and maintenance plans. By integrating advanced irrigation methods and introducing water metering systems, the initiative aims to optimize water distribution and empower local water user associations.

This accomplishment reflects WAPCOS’ long-standing vision of fostering regional integration through science-backed, sustainable resource management. Beyond infrastructure, the project supports peacebuilding and economic resilience by encouraging joint stewardship of shared water resources.

By empowering communities and enhancing institutional capacities, the initiative is a vital step toward securing sustainable water futures across national borders—demonstrating how engineering excellence can support diplomacy and development in equal measure.
