WAPCOS Marks Tanzania Union Anniversary, Strengthens Ties

(THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM) New Delhi, May 16, 2025 — WAPCOS, a premier Indian consultancy organization under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, was honoured to participate in the 61st Anniversary Celebration of the Union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, held at ITC Maurya, New Delhi. The event marked an important milestone in the history of the United Republic of Tanzania and its enduring ties with India.

The celebration was hosted by Her Excellency Anisa Kapufi Mbega, High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania to India. Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest was Ms. K. Nandini Singla, Director General of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs,Government of India. The event brought together distinguished diplomats, government officials, business leaders, and development partners to honour the rich legacy of unity, peace, and progress symbolized by the formation of Tanzania in 1964.

Representing WAPCOS at the prestigious event were R. K. Agrawal, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, and SS. K. Srivastava, Senior Executive Director. Their presence underscored WAPCOS’ longstanding collaboration and friendship with Tanzania — a relationship rooted in mutual trust and shared aspirations for sustainable development.

Over the years, WAPCOS has played a pivotal role in supporting Tanzania’s development goals, having successfully completed 15 major infrastructure and power sector projects, with 4 more currently underway. These projects stand as symbols of South-South cooperation and reflect India’s commitment to being a reliable partner in Africa’s growth story.

Commenting on the occasion, R. K. Agrawal emphasized WAPCOS’ dedication to fostering inclusive growth and capacity building in partner countries. “Our journey with Tanzania is not just about engineering solutions but about building futures, empowering communities, and reinforcing diplomatic and development ties between our nations,” he stated.

WAPCOS’ contributions in Tanzania span a wide range of sectors, including water resources, irrigation, power generation, and capacity enhancement. These efforts have significantly contributed to Tanzania’s infrastructure landscape and socio-economic development, aligning with the broader vision of India-Africa cooperation.

As the evening unfolded with cultural performances and reflections on Tanzania’s journey since its historic union, the event highlighted the enduring spirit of friendship between India and Tanzania — a relationship WAPCOS is proud to nurture through its work and values.
