To make the criminal justice system more swift, robust, and transparent, a significant initiative has been launched to facilitate the paperless exchange of information and documents through a digital platform among all pillars of the system. These pillars include police, medical, forensic, courts, prosecution, and prisons. In this regard, Devas district has been selected as a pilot district under the guidance of Justice Sanjeev Kalgaonkar and ADG SCRB Chanchal Shekhar. The initiative has been launched under the direction of Kailash Makwana, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Madhya Pradesh, who selected Devas district for this pilot project.

This initiative aims to integrate the various departments of the criminal justice system using a digital platform. It will allow seamless communication between departments like police, prosecution, judiciary, forensic, medical, and prisons, ensuring timely and transparent processes. The new law, effective from July 1, 2024, will emphasize timely proceedings from crime registration to court decisions.

The workshop, held under the chief guidance of Justice Sanjeev Kalgaonkar of the Madhya Pradesh High Court and ADG SCRB Chanchal Shekhar (IPS), marked an important step towards enhancing the criminal justice system. The initiative will allow the exchange of information such as investigations, warrants, summons, MLCs, post-mortem reports, FSL reports, court proceedings, and prosecution details on a single platform. Devas district will be the first in the state to provide tablets to investigators, enhancing their workflow’s efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness.

Notably, inter-departmental digital integration, including e-summons, warrants, bail application modules, and Med-Le-Par, is already operational in Devas district. A training session was conducted for officials from various departments to ensure the successful implementation of the system. Police personnel, medical professionals, FSL officers, prosecutors, and investigators will be trained to use this system, creating a faster, more coordinated, and public-serving criminal justice system.

The workshop was attended by various dignitaries, including the Principal District and Sessions Judge of Devas, Ajay Kumar Mishra, and officials from the SCRB and other departments. The event commenced with a welcome address by Devas Superintendent of Police Punit Gehlod, who emphasized the significance of this digital transformation in enhancing transparency and efficiency.

The session also included a presentation by AIG Pranjali Shukla of SCRB, outlining the timelines and processes for the pilot project. Following this, there was an open discussion where judges, lawyers, police officers, and doctors raised questions that were answered by the guests. ADG Chanchal Shekhar highlighted the importance of integrating the existing CIS system with the CCNS, while Judge Ajay Kumar Mishra discussed the need for a digital approach in the judicial system.

In conclusion, Justice Sanjeev Kalgaonkar encouraged all officials to adopt this innovative system with a positive approach. The event was coordinated by ASP Rural Soumya Jain, with ASP City Jayveer Singh Bhadoria expressing gratitude to the attendees.
