New Delhi, June 11, 2025 (THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM) — In a notable development in the public sector appointments landscape, the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), headquartered in New Delhi, has recommended the name of Bhupender Gupta for the prestigious position of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NHPC Limited, India’s leading hydropower company under the Ministry of Power.

The selection was made after PESB conducted a rigorous interface process involving nine candidates from across various public sector undertakings (PSUs). The Board, after evaluating the professional credentials, leadership abilities, and technical expertise of all contenders, found Bhupender Gupta to be the most suitable for the top role at NHPC.

Bhupender Gupta currently holds the position of Director (Technical) at THDC India Limited, another major hydropower entity. Known for his deep domain knowledge, strategic insight, and hands-on experience in hydroelectric project execution, Gupta has played a pivotal role in several key projects under THDC’s portfolio. His elevation to CMD of NHPC is seen as a natural progression of his distinguished career in the Indian power sector.

The appointment of Bhupender Gupta as CMD of NHPC is subject to further formalities and approvals by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
