The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday announced Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as the National Democratic Alliance’s official candidate for the upcoming Vice-President election, scheduled to be held on September 9.
Radhakrishnan, a veteran BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, has held several organizational responsibilities and is known for his long association with the party. His candidature reflects the NDA’s move to field a seasoned political figure with both administrative and legislative experience.
The Vice-President of India, who also serves as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, is elected by members of both Houses of Parliament. Radhakrishnan’s nomination is expected to strengthen the NDA’s position in the contest, with the ruling coalition holding a numerical advantage in Parliament.
If elected, he will succeed Jagdeep Dhankhar, whose term concludes later this year.
