The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has cleared the appointment of Amit Khare, IAS (Jharkhand cadre, 1985 batch, Retd.), as Secretary to the Vice-President of India. He will hold the position in the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India on a contractual basis for a period of three years from the date of assumption of charge, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Khare, a veteran civil servant, is widely respected for his extensive administrative experience at both the state and central levels. Over the course of his career, he has handled diverse portfolios, including education, information and broadcasting, and governance reforms.
