Shirish Chandra Murmu has been appointed Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India for a three-year term, effective October 9, 2025, the government announced on Monday. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his nomination.

Murmu, currently serving as Executive Director at the RBI, will succeed Rajeshwar Rao, whose term overseeing banking regulation and other portfolios concludes on October 8.

The RBI has four deputy governors managing areas such as monetary policy, financial markets, and banking supervision. Murmu’s specific portfolio allocation is yet to be announced.
