Madhya Pradesh Police Shines at 44th All India Police Equestrian Championship

By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| Bhopal, March 5, 2026 — The mounted police contingent of Madhya Pradesh Police delivered an impressive performance at the 44th All India Police Equestrian Championship and Mounted Police Duty Meet, winning six medals and bringing pride to the state.

The prestigious national event was held from February 15 to 27, 2026, at the Border Security Force Academy in Tekanpur. The competition witnessed the participation of 21 teams representing police and paramilitary forces from across the country, with nearly 700 riders and 345 horses competing in various equestrian disciplines.

Demonstrating exceptional skill, discipline and teamwork, the Madhya Pradesh Police team secured a total of six medals, including two gold, two silver and two bronze. The achievement highlights the high standards of training and professionalism maintained by the state’s mounted police unit.

Director General of Police Kailash Makwana honoured the medal winners at a ceremony held at the Police Headquarters in Bhopal. During the felicitation, Makwana congratulated the riders and trainers for their dedication and perseverance, noting that the achievement reflects both individual excellence and the strong training ecosystem within Madhya Pradesh Police.

He emphasized that such accomplishments strengthen the reputation of the force at the national level and inspire younger personnel to pursue excellence in specialised police disciplines. Makwana also announced appropriate rewards for the medal winners and encouraged the team to continue rigorous training and preparation for future competitions.

Among the standout performers was Ghanshyam Prajapati, who secured a gold medal in the “Sais Test”, demonstrating outstanding horse management and stable skills. The event assesses the ability of riders to maintain and manage their horses with professionalism and care, an essential component of mounted policing.

Constable Faraz Khan emerged as the star performer of the Madhya Pradesh team, showcasing remarkable versatility across multiple events. He clinched a gold medal in the Cross Country event, a demanding discipline that tests endurance, speed and coordination between horse and rider.

Khan also won two silver medals in the Police Horse Test and Cross Country categories. In addition, he secured two bronze medals in the Mental Hazard and Show Jumping Grade-III events. His consistent performances across diverse disciplines made him one of the most accomplished riders in the championship. Khan also achieved fourth position in the Show Jumping Pre-Preliminary event, further contributing to the team’s overall success.

The recognition ceremony at Police Headquarters also served as a platform to discuss future strategies for strengthening the mounted police unit in Madhya Pradesh. Senior officers deliberated on initiatives to enhance professional training, adopt modern coaching techniques and expand the number of high-quality sports breed horses in the unit.

These efforts are aimed at preparing the state’s mounted police teams for upcoming national and international competitions and ensuring sustained excellence in equestrian sports.

The ceremony was attended by several senior police officials, including Additional Director General of Police (SAF) Chanchal Shekhar, Inspector General of Police (SAF Indore Range) Chandrashekhar Solanki, Inspector General of Police Irshad Wali, DIG RAPTC Dharmendra Singh Bhadauria, Commandant of 15th Battalion Hitika Vasal, and supervising officer Prachi Dwivedi, along with other senior officers.

The strong performance at the national championship underscores the growing capability and professionalism of the Madhya Pradesh Police mounted unit. With continued investment in training, infrastructure and horse breeding, the force is poised to achieve even greater success in the field of equestrian sports in the years ahead.
