Major Gubernatorial Reshuffle Announced: New Appointments Across Nine States and UTs

By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM In a notable administrative reshuffle, the President of India has approved a series of gubernatorial and Lieutenant Governor appointments affecting several states and Union Territories, signalling a notable reconfiguration of constitutional leadership across the country.

The announcements made by Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday include changes in Delhi, Ladakh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh and Nagaland, reflecting the Union Government’s effort to reposition experienced administrators and political leaders in key constitutional roles.

One of the most notable changes involves R. N. Ravi, who has been serving as Governor of Tamil Nadu and will now take charge as Governor of West Bengal. His move to West Bengal places an experienced administrator at the helm of a politically significant state.

Following this change, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, currently Governor of Kerala, will discharge the functions of Governor of Tamil Nadu, bringing his administrative and legislative experience to the southern state.

Another important development is the appointment of Kavinder Gupta, presently the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, as the new Governor of Himachal Pradesh. His transition from a Union Territory administration to a Himalayan state is seen as a strategic administrative move.

In the national capital, Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been appointed as the new Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. Sandhu, a seasoned diplomat and former ambassador, is expected to bring significant administrative and international experience to the role in the politically and administratively complex capital territory.

Meanwhile, the current Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena, has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. His experience in governance and administration is expected to be valuable in managing the strategic Union Territory.

In another reshuffle, Shiv Pratap Shukla, currently serving as Governor of Himachal Pradesh, has been appointed Governor of Telangana, replacing Jishnu Dev Varma, who will now assume charge as Governor of Maharashtra.

The President has also appointed Nand Kishore Yadav as Governor of Nagaland, marking his transition from active politics to a constitutional office in the northeastern region.

In a notable appointment, Syed Ata Hasnain, a retired Lieutenant General of the Indian Army, has been appointed Governor of Bihar. Known for his distinguished military career and strategic insights, his appointment is expected to bring a disciplined and experienced perspective to the constitutional role.

This sweeping reshuffle reflects a broader effort by the Union Government to reposition experienced leaders, administrators and diplomats across key states and Union Territories, ensuring administrative continuity and strengthening constitutional governance.

The new appointments will come into effect as the incumbents assume their respective offices in the coming days.
