Centre Invites Applications for Central Vigilance Commissioner Post Ahead of August Vacancy

By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| The Government of India has initiated the process for appointing the next Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC), inviting applications from eligible and experienced candidates to fill the upcoming vacancy in the Central Vigilance Commission.
The post will fall vacant on August 3, 2026, following the completion of the incumbent’s tenure. The appointment will be made under the provisions of the Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003, which governs the functioning, powers, and composition of the Commission.
The Central Vigilance Commission, headquartered in New Delhi, is the apex integrity institution tasked with overseeing vigilance administration and combating corruption in central government organizations. The Commission comprises a Central Vigilance Commissioner and up to two Vigilance Commissioners, entrusted with powers defined under the Act.
As per the guidelines, the selected candidate will hold office for a tenure of four years from the date of assuming charge or until attaining the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier. The position carries the same status, salary, and service conditions as that of the Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission, ensuring parity at the highest levels of public service.
The eligibility criteria are stringent, reflecting the significance of the role. Applicants must be individuals of impeccable integrity with at least 25 years of experience in fields such as vigilance, policy-making, administration, finance, law, or investigations. Candidates may be drawn from senior civil services, including those who have held positions equivalent to Secretary to the Government of India, or from leadership roles in Central Public Sector Enterprises, including Chairman, Managing Director, or Chief Executive Officer positions.
Additionally, distinguished professionals from the private sector with proven expertise and leadership experience at the highest level are also eligible, provided they meet the prescribed criteria of tenure and accomplishment.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has set May 18, 2026, as the last date for submission of applications. Serving officers are required to route their applications through the proper channel, though advance copies may be submitted via email within the stipulated timeline.
This appointment assumes critical importance in strengthening institutional vigilance and reinforcing transparency and accountability across government systems. The forthcoming selection is expected to bring in a leader capable of upholding the highest standards of probity in public administration.
