PESB’s Digital-Only Application System Marks New Era in CPSE Leadership Selection

In a remarkable step towards strengthening transparency, efficiency, and paperless governance, the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has announced that applications for board-level positions in Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) will be processed exclusively through its online platform from August 1, 2026.
The decision represents another milestone in the Government of India’s broader digital transformation agenda, aimed at modernizing administrative processes and reducing dependence on physical documentation. PESB, the apex body responsible for selecting top leadership for CPSEs, has been steadily upgrading its systems to ensure faster, more transparent, and accountable recruitment procedures.
Under the revised framework, applications forwarded through email, post, or any physical mode by ministries, departments, or organizations will no longer be accepted for vacancies advertised on or after August 1, 2026. Instead, all applications must be routed through the dedicated online portal managed by PESB.
To facilitate the transition, ministries and organizations have been asked to designate nodal officers responsible for processing and forwarding applications electronically. These officers will be required to register on the PESB portal and ensure that applications are submitted within prescribed timelines.
The move is expected to streamline coordination between PESB and stakeholder organizations while minimizing delays often associated with manual processing. It will also create a standardized digital trail for every application, enhancing transparency and accountability throughout the selection process.
For CPSE executives aspiring to board-level leadership positions, the new system promises greater convenience and predictability. Digital submission and monitoring mechanisms will help applicants track progress more effectively while reducing paperwork and administrative hurdles.
The initiative aligns with the Government’s vision of Digital India and reflects the growing emphasis on technology-driven governance across public institutions. By adopting a fully digital workflow for leadership appointments, PESB is setting a benchmark for modern recruitment practices in the public sector.
As the implementation date approaches, ministries, departments, and public enterprises are expected to complete the designation and registration of nodal officers to ensure a smooth transition. The reform is likely to enhance the efficiency of leadership selection processes and contribute to stronger governance standards across India’s vast CPSE ecosystem.
With this shift to end-to-end online processing, PESB has reinforced its commitment to transparent, efficient, and future-ready public sector administration.
