By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| Rajasthan Chief Secretary Srinivas Voruganti held a bilateral meeting with Dr. Alvaro Lario, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), at the organisation’s headquarters in Rome.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in key areas of agriculture and rural development, with particular emphasis on drought moderation, sustainable cropping patterns, dairy development, command area development and watershed management.

The discussions assumed significance for Rajasthan, a state where water availability, climate variability and agricultural resilience remain critical to sustaining rural livelihoods. The deliberations explored approaches that could help strengthen water-use efficiency, improve agricultural productivity and promote more resilient farming systems.

Dairy development also figured prominently in the discussions, reflecting the potential for expanding livestock-based rural incomes and strengthening value chains for farmers and rural communities. Greater convergence between agricultural production, water management and allied activities could provide a more integrated pathway for rural development.

The two sides also discussed potential areas of future collaboration, opening possibilities for greater engagement between Rajasthan and IFAD in projects aimed at enhancing climate resilience, sustainable agriculture and rural livelihoods.

IFAD, a United Nations specialised agency and international financial institution, focuses exclusively on rural transformation and invests in rural communities to improve food security, livelihoods and resilience. ([IFAD][1])

The meeting underlined Rajasthan’s efforts to explore international partnerships and development-oriented interventions that can support sustainable agriculture, efficient water management and inclusive rural growth.
