By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM|The 18th GRIHA Summit 2026 has once again brought the spotlight on India’s commitment to sustainable development, with a focus on building a low-carbon future through environmentally responsible buildings and infrastructure.
Addressing the summit, Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER), underlined the importance of the annual gathering as a platform for discussing emerging developments, exchanging ideas and exploring solutions for a more sustainable built environment.
Highlighting the significance of the summit’s continuity, Katikithala noted that the event is organised every year, with the 17th edition held last year. Each edition provides an opportunity to deliberate on evolving priorities and challenges through a distinct theme, keeping the discussion relevant to India’s changing development requirements.
The theme of the 18th edition, *’Pathways for a Low Carbon Future: Buildings to Infrastructure’*, reflects the growing importance of integrating sustainability into the country’s infrastructure and construction ecosystem.
As India accelerates its infrastructure expansion and urban development, reducing the carbon footprint of buildings and infrastructure has become an important development priority. Sustainable construction, resource efficiency, energy conservation and environmentally conscious planning will be central to this transition.
The GRIHA Summit serves as an important forum for policymakers, industry leaders, architects, planners and sustainability professionals to exchange perspectives and identify practical approaches to green development.
The broader message of the summit is clear: India’s journey towards a resilient and sustainable economy must place environmental responsibility at the heart of infrastructure creation and long-term development.
