Chhattisgarh ranks sixth in the country for providing employment to specially-abled under MNREGA

Nearly 23 thousand specially-abled people got employment of more than 5 lakh days this year

Raipur, 7 December 2019/ Chhattisgarh holds sixth position in the country in terms of providing employment to specially-abled people under Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS). In the first eight months of current fiscal year 2019-20 i.e. from April to November, 22 thousand 966 disable people have been provided employment under MNREGA. In this duration, employment of five lakh three thousand 208 days has been created. For better implementation of MNREGA, disable beneficiaries are also being provided employment along with others. Chhattisgarh state has left several major states of the country behind in providing employment to disable people under MNREGA. States that hold first, second, third, fourth and fifth rank for providing employment to specially-abled are Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal respectively. Panchayat and Rural Development MinisterTS Singhdeo has praised the dedication and sensitiveness of department officials and employees to include disable people in mainstream through effective implementation of the scheme. He said that employment opportunities like this would not only boost confidence and morale of disable people but will also make their life easier. Initiative would be taken to create more employment opportunities under other schemes as well. In the previous fiscal year 2018-19, 30 thousand 702 disable beneficiaries were provided employment of eight lakh 90 thousand 264 days under MNREGA. MNREGA scheme includes provisions to provide employment to disable people. Such beneficiaries are provided coloured job cards. Registered beneficiaries are provided convenient employment opportunities based on their demands.

In the current fiscal year, following number of disable beneficiaries have been provided employment in various districts under MNREFA- 4411 in Rajnandgaon, 2603 in Kabeerdham district, 1937 in Sukma, 1537 in Balodabazar-Bhatapara, 1354 in Raipur, 1140 in Jasahpur, 1007 in Balod, 555 in Bilaspur, 457 in Mungeli, 420 in Gariaband, 419 in Bemetara, 395 in Dantewada, 381 in Sarguja, 369 in Durg, 283 in Balrampur-Ramanujganj, 273 in Kondagaon, 213 in Bastar, 167 in Mahasamund, 89 in Bijapur, and 64 beneficiaries in Narayanpur district. Under MNREGA, disable people are provided employment works as per their skill and capacity categorized as drinking water facility, baby-sitting, plantation, canal digging, filling potholes, loading-unloading sand in trollies, building and concrete structure construction, etc.
