By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| As the southwest monsoon approaches, the Government of Gujarat has intensified its preparedness efforts with a clear objective—ensuring a “Zero Casualty” response during the rainy season. In a high-level pre-monsoon review meeting recently held in Gandhinagar, Chief Secretary M. K. Das chaired a comprehensive assessment of the state’s disaster management readiness and inter-departmental coordination mechanisms.

The meeting brought together senior officials from key departments and agencies, including meteorology, urban development, health, roads and buildings, civil supplies, and central security forces. Coordinated by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), the review featured detailed presentations on disaster management plans, emergency response protocols, and preparedness measures designed to address potential monsoon-related challenges across Gujarat.

Emphasizing the importance of proactive governance, M. K. Das directed that control rooms at the state, district, and taluka levels be activated immediately ahead of the monsoon season. These control centres will serve as crucial hubs for monitoring weather developments, coordinating emergency responses, and ensuring swift communication among departments and local administrations.

The Chief Secretary also underscored the need to minimize inconvenience to citizens by expediting pending road, drainage, and sewerage works in both urban and rural areas. Timely completion of such infrastructure projects, he noted, is essential to prevent waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and public hardship during periods of heavy rainfall.

Demonstrating the state’s commitment to preparedness, Gujarat has positioned substantial rescue and relief resources across vulnerable regions. A total of 14 teams from the National Disaster Response Force and 22 teams from the State Disaster Response Force have been kept on standby to respond rapidly to emergencies arising from floods, cyclones, or other weather-related incidents.

The review reflects Gujarat’s continued focus on disaster resilience, citizen safety, and efficient governance. By strengthening coordination, enhancing infrastructure readiness, and deploying specialized response teams, the state administration is striving to ensure that the monsoon season is managed with maximum preparedness and minimum risk to human life and property.
