Key Bureaucratic Appointments, Policy Dev, Sectoral Highlights Dominate Early June 2025

The first week of June 2025 saw significant bureaucratic movements and administrative announcements. The Competition Commission of India opened applications for 22 senior posts on deputation, while the Department of Commerce invited applications for the role of Joint Development Commissioner at Kandla-SEZ. The PESB advertised the position of Director (Finance) at Munitions India Limited.

Several key officer appointments and extensions were notified, including Ashish Thakare (IAS) as Director in the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, and multiple appointments related to Census Operations across states. Ratnakar Patnaik and Dinesh Pant assumed charge as Managing Directors of LIC, and S. Padmanabhan was named Chairman of Tata Chemicals.

Administrative reshuffles continued with the Bihar government transferring 47 IAS officers ahead of elections. Notable repatriations and disciplinary actions included the premature return of Inder Deep Singh Dhariwal and Anurag Prasad, and a 5-year deputation debarment of Gaurav Govil.

In corporate and sectoral updates, Deutsche Bank appointed Stefan Schaffer as India CEO, while Swiggy promoted Sanjana Shetty to AVP – PR. The Asian Development Bank launched a \$10 billion urban development strategy for India. In infrastructure, IRCON won a ₹1,068 crore rail bridge contract in Bihar, and Oil India began gas production from the Bakhritibba block in Rajasthan.

On the law enforcement front, the CBI made significant recoveries in a bribery case and arrested two individuals, including a senior IRS officer. Meanwhile, the Karnataka Forest Ministry called for legal action in a forest land transfer scandal.

Public sector initiatives saw launches like C CARES 2.0 for coal workers and the ‘BSE Nivesh Mitra’ investment education app. In education, Rajit Gupta topped JEE Advanced 2025, and the Assistant Secretary Programme concluded at the Centre.

India’s active COVID-19 cases rose to 3,758, with Kerala leading state-wise case numbers. PIB Fact Check confirmed ₹500 notes will not be withdrawn.
