In this direction, Managing Director of India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), Mugdha Sinha, IAS, met Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, accompanied by Ashok, Head of Department, Institute of Hotel Management (IHM). The meeting focused on enhancing the capabilities of homestay owners under the Prime Minister’s Tribal Homestay Owners Programme and identifying strategies for the broader development of tourism in the northeastern state.
The discussions highlighted the growing importance of community-driven tourism models that not only attract visitors but also create sustainable livelihoods for local residents. Homestays have emerged as an important component of rural and tribal tourism, offering travellers authentic cultural experiences while enabling local communities to directly benefit from tourism-related economic activities.

The Prime Minister’s Tribal Homestay Owners Programme aims to empower tribal communities by strengthening their participation in the tourism sector.
