(THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM) New Delhi, February 22, 2025 – The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Shaktikanta Das, IAS (Retired) (TN:80), as the Principal Secretary-2 to the Prime Minister. His appointment will take effect from the date he assumes office and will be co-terminus with the tenure of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Das, a distinguished retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1980 batch from the Tamil Nadu cadre, brings with him a wealth of experience in economic policymaking and governance. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), where he played a crucial role in steering India’s monetary policy and financial stability.

Having held key positions in the Ministry of Finance, Das was instrumental in implementing major economic reforms, including the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and demonetization. His expertise in fiscal management, public finance, and economic policy is expected to contribute significantly to the Prime Minister’s office.

The role of Principal Secretary-2 to the Prime Minister involves advising on key policy matters, coordinating inter-ministerial functions, and ensuring the smooth implementation of the government’s strategic initiatives. With his extensive administrative and financial experience, Das is anticipated to be a valuable addition to the Prime Minister’s leadership team.
