By THE NEWSMAN OF INDIA.COM| Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Five Eminent Legal Minds for Elevation to Apex Court

In a notable development for the Indian judiciary, the Supreme Court Collegium has recommended five distinguished legal luminaries for appointment as judges of the Supreme Court of India. The move is being viewed as an important step toward strengthening the nation’s highest constitutional court with experienced judicial and legal expertise drawn from different High Courts and the Bar.

The recommendations include Justice Sheel Nagu, presently Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court; Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court; Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court; Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court; and senior advocate V Mohana, a respected legal practitioner known for his constitutional and commercial law expertise.

The Collegium’s recommendations reflect a balanced representation of judicial experience, regional diversity and legal acumen. Each of the recommended names has earned recognition for integrity, judicial competence and contribution to the legal system.

Justice Sheel Nagu has built a reputation for delivering well-reasoned judgments and for his administrative capabilities while heading the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, known for his judicial clarity and balanced approach, has served in key judicial capacities before assuming charge as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.

Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva’s elevation recommendation has drawn considerable attention from the legal fraternity, particularly because of his extensive experience in constitutional and civil matters. His tenure as Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has been marked by judicial efficiency and institutional discipline.

Justice Arun Palli, currently serving as Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, is widely respected for his deep understanding of legal principles and commitment to judicial reforms. His elevation would further enhance representation from northern judicial institutions at the apex level.

The inclusion of senior advocate V Mohana is also considered significant, as appointments from the Bar to the Supreme Court bring practical advocacy experience and constitutional expertise to the Bench. V Mohana has appeared in several important matters before constitutional courts and is regarded as a distinguished member of the legal community.

The recommendations now move to the Central Government for further processing and formal appointment. Once approved, the appointments are expected to strengthen the Supreme Court’s judicial capacity amid rising case pendency and increasing constitutional litigation.

The development has generated keen interest across judicial and legal circles, with many viewing the proposed elevations as a blend of experience, merit and institutional balance that could contribute significantly to the future functioning of the Supreme Court of India.
