Vice President Lays Foundation Stone for International Exhibition-Cum-Convention Centre at Pragati Maidan

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, today laid the foundation stone for the Redevelopment of ITPO-Pragati Maidan Complex into a world class International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC). This mega scale redevelopment work, being executed by NBCC (India) Ltd., is aimed at transforming the landmark Pragati Maidan site and establishing a state-of-the-art one-stop venue for international and domestic events, summits, conferences and high level ministerial meetings.
Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Suresh Prabhu; Minister of State (I/C), Housing and Urban Affairs,Hardeep Singh Puri; Minister of State, Commerce and Industry,C R Choudhary; alongwith Dr. Anoop Kumar Mittal, CMD, NBCC (India) Limited and L C Goyal, CMD, India Trade Promotion Organisation were also present during the foundation laying ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion,M. Venkaiah Naidu stated that IECC at Pragati Maidan would be a state-of-the-art world class complex for the city of Delhi. He said that such a complex was long overdue at a central location in the capital city of Delhi. He envisaged that the IECC project would further strengthen and diversify the roots of trade in India and also promote trade from India in different markets of the world. He emphasised on the need of such convention and exhibition facilities in other cities as well. He linked such initiatives to the slogan of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Reform, Perform and Transform aligning with the basic objectives of development and good governance.
Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Suresh Prabhu emphasised on the importance of such projects for propelling India into a new trajectory of growth and development. He said that the convention centre would be an exhibit in itself for New India. He added that ITPO is building new facilities which will actually make sure that India is able to depict its true capacities through its Exhibition Halls and facilities.
Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Housing and Urban affairs said that IECC is going to be an iconic centre which would draw visitors for its own beauty and help Delhi assume its rightful role as a Global city where world leaders and businesses want to stage International Events. He emphaised on the role of his Ministry in approving and funding the Integrated Transit Corridor Development Project which will lead to traffic decongestion in and around Pragati Maidan.
The IECC is being developed with latest architectural design alongwith new-age facilities and technology equaling World class parameters. The Mega Convention Centre will be 32.4 mtr. tall landmark building with a capacity of 7000 pax in single format as well as amphitheatre with 3000 pax, and would be five time larger than Vigyan Bhawan. The convention centre will include 22 Meeting Rooms, Special Areas for High Level and International Dignitaries and also houses a rooftop helipad with elevator access for VIPs. The exhibition segment of the integrated centre shall have seven new modern exhibition halls alongwith pre-function area with exhibition space of 1 lakh sqmtr.
A 5-Star Hotel Facility, to be operated by a private entity, will also come up in addition to food courts, covered walkways, extensive landscaping & water bodies basement parking with capacity of 4,800 vehicles and skywalk connectivity with the Pragati Maidan metro station.
There is another significant value add to this project which is the Development of Integrated Transit Corridor along the Pragati Maidan, whose foundation stone was also laid today. This traffic intervention has been designed to decongest traffic in and around the area, by making all road crossings signal free, therby providing huge relief to the general public.
