Vice President lays foundation stone of NIDM southern campus in Krishna district

Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu today laid the foundation stone of National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) Southern Campus in Kandapavuluru Village of Gannavaram Mandal, Krishna District in Andhra Pradesh. Among those present at the ceremony were Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Home Affairs and Shri Konakalla Narayana Rao,Member of Parliament from Machilipatnam alongwith senior officials from Ministry of Home Affairs and NBCC.
The project will be developed by NBCC (India) Ltd, a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Dr. Anoop Kumar Mittal is the CMD of NBCC. The NIDM Southern Campus will be spread across 10 acres and have the main building with an administration block and a training cell, a hostel building, residences, a first aid centre and a gym.
The administration block spread over 3,620 square metres will have offices of the Executive Director and other senior officials, IT systems and space for various project staff. The training hall with have a classroom with capacity of 50 persons, two conference halls with a capacity of 100 persons, one emergency operation centre, a library, a board room, a museum and dining space with pantry for about 100 persons.
The hostel building spread over 3,960 square metres will have courtyard design to resist composite climate of the region. It will have four suites, 53 single occupancy rooms with attached toilets and balcony, dining area with kitchen facility, indoor games and entertainment facilities.
The residences will be of Type V (five), Type IV (six) and Type III (three). In addition, the campus will have a facility to provide first-aid to residents with a room for resident/visiting doctor, an indoor gymnasium, changing rooms and outdoor sports area.
NBCC is the only public sector enterprise in realty space which redevelops properties for the government. It is also executing the critical project of constructing civilian bunkers along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu District to protect the residents from cross-border firing and shelling. In the past too, NBCC has undertaken fencing work along the 4,096-km Indo-Bangla border.
