GoI announces top bureaucratic postings

New Delhi: The government has made nine top level postings in a major bureaucratic reshuffle meant to fill vacancies. The new postings announced late on Saturday night are replacements for senior officials who retire over the next two months and a half. Another round of appointments are expected shortly to fill in the vacancies left behind by the officials covered by the latest appointments.

As per the announcement, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) chief executive officer Ajay Bhushan Pandey will succeed Hasmukh Adhia as revenue secretary, while Upma Chawdhry, Director of Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration will take over as secretary in the department of youth affairs.

Adhia, who retires at the end of this month, is also the finance secretary. Upma Chawdhry succeeds Amarendra Kumar Dubey, who also retires on 31 December. UIDAI’s Pandey will continue to hold the additional charge of chief executive officer of the Authority and chairman of Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) for the time being.

N Sivasailam, currently special secretary in the department of telecommunications has been appointed as special secretary (logistics), in the department of commerce. Special secretaries are of the same rank as secretaries with the only difference that the latter act as functional heads of a department.

Sumanta Chaudhuri, currently managing director of Small Farmers’ Agri-Business Consortium in the agriculture department has been appointed as secretary in the coal ministry. Chhabilendra Roul, at present special secretary in the department of agricultural research and education has been appointed as officer on special duty (OSD) in the fertilizers department. Roul will take over as secretary on superannuation of Bharathi S. Sihag at the end of December

Food Corporation of India chairman and managing director Yogendra Tripathy has been appointed as secretary in the tourism department on retirement of. Rashmi Verma at the end of November. Shalini Prasad, special secretary in the panchayati raj ministry has been appointed as member Secretary in the Tariff Commission in department of industrial policy and promotion.

Girish Chandra Murmu, currently special secretary in revenue department has been appointed as OSD in the expenditure department. He will take over as expenditure secretary when A.N. Jha retires on 31 January. Ashok Kumar Singh, additional secretary at Lok Sabha Secretariat, has been appointed as Secretary in the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes.
